LTO issued a memo dated March 15, 2016 regarding guidelines on inspection and apprehension relative to motorcycle top boxes, saddle bags, and boxes on motorcycles or scooters.
The memo was addressed to all Regional Directors, Assistant Regional Directors, Chief of the LTO Field Enforcement Division, Heads of Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers, Heads of District/Extension Offices, Heads of Regional Law Enforcement Units, and other employees concerned.
A top box (popularly known product is givi box) that is specifically designed for motorcycles and scooters and approved by DTI may not be subject for inspection, registration or apprehension if it is securely attached to the motorcycle and it has a maximum capacity size of two full-faced helmet.
A custom made box like delivery boxes are subject for inspection and registration and it must be securely attached to motorcycle; dimensions must not exceed 2 feet each sides; and must not block your view from side mirror.
Registration fee for custom made box is Php100.00.
Same with saddle bags that are specifically designed for motorcycles and scooters and approved by DTI may not be subject for inspection, registration or apprehension if it is securely attached to the motorcycle and must not be higher than the seat of motorcycle or scooter.
Custom made saddle bags or boxes are subject for inspection and registration but it must not exceed fourteen inches from the sides and length must not exceed the tail end of the motorcycle or scooter.
